CONSTUCTION: FILM POSTER OLD AND NEW

After receiving feedback on my film poster, I decided to make a few changes to it based on what people thought about it. From this feedback, I changed the alignment of the text on the sides to make both in line with each other and straight rather than at an angle.
Secondly, from the feedback, I agreed that my title was too small so I decided to make it larger so it would stand out more and mirror the same word depicted in shadow below it.
Finally, in the billing block I got rid of the inverted commas around people's name so that it would look more professional.
I received a lot of positive feedback: The composition of my graphic design was very much admired for its dynamic qualities with the center of visual attention being the protagonist who is being challenged to take risks. The focus group admired the colour scheme which they felt connoted the riskiness of the narrative with its startling and enervating electronic and neon hues which are very disconcerting. It was felt that the colours suggested the dangers of the city at night, with the car headlights focused on the protagonist. In particular, the way that they tagline was created in shadows was felt to be very ominous and in keeping with the spirit of the film. It was still felt that the pull quotes from IMDB and Daily News were too big in size.

RESEARCH: TREATMENT

As part of my research, I looked at a future learn video on youtube by Frank Ash to develop my understanding on the top line and big question of the treatment. This is good because the sotry needs to be appealing to the audience if they are going to see the film. Therefore, if the film has a good treatment more people are likely going to be interested.

For example: "So, if you’re aiming for your film to reach a large audience online, making sure it has universal appeal will be key." This would be achieved by having a grabbing top line and big question.

A top line is a general sum up of the films narative to one condensed sentence which has to be effective to show what the film will be about which can attract the audience in. The big question is the story changer which hooks the audience to the story to see how the film will end out at the end.

RESEARCH: OCR WEEBLY AND STORY BOARDS

I went onto the OCR Weebly website workshop which was very helpful when learning about making our story board and how to structure it properly. Steve Thorne has presented how he created story boards for video production with his A-Level students.

I will be using the same approach to create my story boards. Using sticky-notes for the boards is flexible and means that scenes can be moved around easily.

We also tried using StoryboardThat, A website which allows you to make digital story boards using the storyboard template and preset, customizable characters, scenes, and speech boxes. However, we found it quite restricting because there were only a certian amount of backgrounds, chacters etc which could prove challenging if we want a really specific scene.
Therefore, we decided that we should stick to the sticky notes because they are much more adaptable and flexible along with being able to adapt it our film more easily.

PLANNING: OUR TREATMENT

WORKING TITLE: (working on name)

The topline: four students A, B, C and D in need of some quick cash respond to an advert for being guineau pigs in medical research. They report to a lab and chat nervously. Soon they are prostrate on beds, in patient gowns, being injected / swallowing tablets under thewatchful eye of two doctors. A cutaway shot suggests some hallucinatory experiences. The trailer cuts to student A in his /her ktichen the next morning suddenly receiving a text. The phone screen looks like a game with a challenge / task. The screen goes black. Student A feels compelled to follow the instructions. She is told to break a few laws on the way (such as steal money from her mother's handbag, snatch a scooter left on the pavement, throw a stone at a window). She is surprised at her own behaviour.

Her task is to surprise a stranger by breaking into their house. She finds that the stranger's house belongs to person B. They exchange greetings. A text arrives simultaneously on both their phones, instructing them with the next task. This one is harder. It involves persuading someone to take a high-level selfie. The screen goes black. They carry out the task. The person falls to their death and they realize that they are in the power of a mind control drug.

The big question: will the students resist the mind control drug before further challenges cause further traumas?

RESEARCH: FILM EDUCATION

I have used the film education website for more information and ideas on film trailers and how to make them.

This film may be suited to the audience range of 12-25 because its a fast action movie which can appeal to younger age people. This is represented within the trailer that I have made. In this trailer, i have made it so it fits this fast pace film which empathizes the action within this film to suit the target audience.
